John Hark has worked in the maritime industry for more than 25 years. He began working with Bertling Logistics in 2002 as Americas Director for U.S. vessel operations, and is now responsible for the group’s North and South American operations. In addition to his position with Bertling, Hark has also been an Adjunct Professor with Texas A&M University for 15 years. Prior to joining Bertling, he was with Enron Industrial Markets as a supply chain manager. John serves as the current President of the Houston Maritime Arbitrators Association and chairs Advisory Councils for Lone Star College and Houston Community College. Hark graduated from Texas A&M University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Maritime Administration.

In business since 1865, Bertling Logistics is a privately owned company with more than 90 offices worldwide. Bertling’s logistics activities encompass project forwarding, oil/gas and mining resupply logistics, and general forwarding. Additionally, the company is very active in airfreight forwarding, ocean charters, integrated IT solutions, supply chain management, and U.S. truck brokerage. Bertling’s ship-owning/brokerage activities include ownership and management of a fleet of modern 35,000, 50,000 and 82,000 dwt bulk carriers as well as a worldwide traditional ship and cargo brokerage business.
